About the department
The department functions as an internal medicine department that receives patients from the emergency room and community clinics and provides counseling services to the other departments of the hospital.
The department is affiliated with the National Institute of Liver Diseases, which refers patients directly to hospitalization.
Academic and research activities
The diverse interests of the department's physicians contribute to and influence the research and academic activities of the department. The department is affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and takes an active part in the teaching of medical students during clinical years and nursing students. The department's research activities include clinical aspects and basic research of hepatitis B and C viruses, the mechanism that causes cancer by hepatitis viruses, new treatments in liver disease in "liver" patients and transplantees, development of innovative drugs against hepatitis C virus.
