About the department
The plastic surgery and burns center at Rabin Medical Center, which includes the Beilinson and Hasharon Hospitals, as well as the Plastic Surgery Service at the Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel, founded over 60 years ago. is one of the largest and most advanced of its kind in Israel.
The department deals with every area of plastic surgery, acute treatment and burns, the residents also are trained in aesthetic surgery according to the plastic surgery board requirements.
The department constitutes a national center of excellence in a number of fields, including breast reconstruction, advanced skin tumors, microsurgery in the fields of head and neck and limb reconstruction, treatment of wounds that are difficult to heal with an institutional care system that serves as an example for all hospitals in Israel. The department has a post bariatric surgery service and a new service dealing with gender affirmation surgery.
Hasharon Hospital works in collaboration with the Department of Surgery in the fields of breast reconstruction and in the laser-skin center for "mohs " micrographic surgery. The department collaborates with the Davidoff Center for the Treatment and Research of Cancer Diseases in the areas of breast cancer and advanced skin cancers, with weekly tumor boards meeting giving a comprehensive care for advanced skin cancer and melanoma patients and the department collaborated with the Department of Cardiac Surgery in the area of treatment of wounds with healing difficulties after cardiac surgery and chest wall reconstruction.
Head and neck reconstruction is a national center of excellence with department of ENT.
specializing in pediatric plastic surgery operate the plastic surgery service at Schneider Children's Hospital. The service constitutes a national center of excellence for the repair of cleft palate and lip, for treatment of blood vessel malformations and for treatment of facial and skull defects (the leading center in Israel for these types of surgeries with an experience including hundreds of cases). The unit in Schneider also is a national center for alloplastic ear reconstruction and minimally invasive congen8ital skull defects operations, with the neurosurgical unit.
Schneider Children's Hospital also treats children with burns from the entire central region.The department works in close cooperation with many hospitals and serves as a national referral center. The patients benefit from advanced surgery using state-of-the-art techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.The department maintains an outpatient clinic for plastic surgery in the clinics building.
Academic and research activities
The Plastic Surgery Department trains plastic surgeons, trainees and students from Israel and abroad. The department conducts seminars and weekly literature review meetings.
The department takes an active part in every conference of the Israel Plastic Surgery Association. The department teaches regularly form various medicine programs of the Tel Aviv university, Ariel university and for Israeli students from Charles University in Prague.
In 1996-1998, and 2008-2009, the department was responsible for the plastic surgery continuing-studies program at the Tel Aviv University School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University.
In 2000, the Department won the first prize awarded for the best article and the Kaplan Prize for the best research papers in Israel. The department is leading in innovation and applied research and FDA approved medical devices were developed and tested, since the CO2 lasers in the 70's to current days Vesseal™. In 2023, an AI study for melanoma won the instituinal uinnovation project of the year 2022. The department deals with basic and clinical research in the areas of wound healing, skin tumors, chest reconstruction surgery and disease development mathematical models.
