About the Department
The Department of Geriatrics is headed by Prof. Yichayaou Beloosesky, an expert in internal medicine, and in Geriatric Medicine. A graduate of Claude Bernard Medical School in Lyon France. He is an Associate clinical Professor,head of geriatrics in the internal medicine division and head of the post graduate lectures in geriatric medicine, at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University.
The Department of Geriatrics with a multidisciplinary professional team consisting of physicians specialist in internal and geriatric medicine, fellows in geriatric medicine, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dietitians, evaluates, treats and rehabilitates elderly patients with multi-faceted conditions, specializing in patients with acute illness combined with a loss in general and cognitive function. The department also includes an ortho-geriatric service for care of patients suffering from hip fractures and provides consultative services regarding specialized evaluation and care for this population to the various hospital departments, in particular to the Department of Emergency Medicine, as well as to geriatric homes in the area. Dealing with the patient's social and psychological problems as well as his/her medical problems the staff also frequently works with the family or caregivers who are assisting the older person. They treat about 1,450 patients every year, 95% who are 75 and older.
