About the Department
The Department of Internal Medicine A is headed by Prof. Anat Gafter-Gvili, an expert in the fields of internal medicine and hematology diseases. Prof. Gafter-Gvili is a professor in internal medicine at Tel Aviv School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. Prof. Anat Gafter-Gvili is the Head of Department of Medicine A, in Rabin Medical Center and a senior physician in the hemato-oncologic clinic in Davidoff Cancer Center in Rabin Medical Center. She is a specialist in internal medicine and in hematology. Prof. Gafter-Gvili graduated medical school with honors in Tel Aviv Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Tel-Aviv. Since 2000 she is working at Rabin Medical Center.
In addition to the clinical work, she has considerable teaching experience, having designed and taught hematology courses in the faculty of medicine. Moreover, she is involved in teaching students, residents and fellows in the internal medicine and the hematology clinic. She is currently the Chair of Department of Internal Medicine and Vice Dean for Teaching Excellence and Mentorship, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Tel- Aviv University, Tel Aviv.
Prof. Gafter-Gvili carries out extensive research activity and has published over 165 original articles in the medical literature. She has experience in clinical research, large databases, basic science, and meta-analyses. She is the principal investigator in many clinical trials. Her main research topics are infections in hematological and oncological immunocompromised patients, lymphoma, anemia and the metabolism of iron.
The Department of Internal Medicine A treats patients in need of diagnosis, assessment and treatment for a wide variety of internal diseases, with specialization in the field of hematological disorders, especially malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma. Hematology patients are referred to the department by the Institute of Hematology at Davidoff cancer center, RMC and from other hospitals. The staff provides follow-up service in a dedicated outpatient clinic and performs research studies of hematology malignancies and benign hematology.
