About the Department
The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis is headed by Dr. Vered Yahalom,
a graduate of Hadassah School of Medicine, Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
Dr. Yahalom is certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. Prior to her arrival to RMC, she was the Deputy Director of Magen David Adom National Services and Medical Director of the National Blood Group Reference Laboratory.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis is one of the largest hospital-based blood center, or as it is known "Blood Bank", in Israel. Equipped with state of the art equipment and modern laboratories it is responsible for providing blood and blood products, consultation services in transfusion medicine, and therapeutic inpatient and ambulatory apheresis services to both of Rabin Medical Center Hospitals, Beilinson and Hasharon as well as to the Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel. The department also maintains a component preparation facility and provides a full range of donor services mainly apheresis products as well as whole blood donations. The donation area has ultra-comfortable loungers to provide comfort for our devoted apheresis and blood donors.
In addition the Department supports the unique needs of RMC's active transplant service which includes among other organs - kidney, liver and heart/lung transplants in adults and children as well as active stem-cell transplantation progarm. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of the most active in Israel and all its special needs for blood products are met by the Transfusion Medicine Department.
