פרופ' אלי צוקרמן הוא מומחה למחלות כבד, מקים ומנהל יחידת מחלות כבד בבתי החולים כרמל ולין שבחיפה. תחומי מומחיותו כוללים בין אבחון וטיפול בכבד שומני, הפטיסיס B ו- C, מחלת כבד אלכוהולית, מחלות כבד הקשורות בהריון, מחלות כבד אוטואימוניות, מחלות כבד על רקע הפרעות בדרכי המרה, ומחלות כבד תורשתיות ומטבוליות. כמו כן, פרופסור צוקרמן הינו מומחה באבחון שחמת הכבד ומתן טיפול לסיבוכיה בביופסיה ובכלים בלתי פולשניים, באבחון וטיפול בהפרעת תפקוד כבד בעקבות נטילת תרופות, ובטיפול בחולים הנזקקים להשתלת כבד. פרופסור צוקרמן הוא יו"ר החברה הישראלית לחקר הכבד וכן חבר בחברה האירופית ובחברה האמריקאית לחקר הכבד, עוסק בפעילות מחקרית ענפה, מרצה ומשתתף בכנסים בינלאומיים אודות חולי הפטיטיס C.​

Eli Zuckerman, M.D., is director of the Liver Unit of Haifa and Western Galilee District of Clalit Health Services and Carmel University Medical Center affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine of the Technion, Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. He also currently serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israeli Institute of Technology in Haifa, from which he earned his medical degree in 1982. Prof. Zuckerman has completed his training in Advanced Hepatology at the Liver Unit of University of Southern California (USC) between 1993-1997. His main research interests are treatment of viral hepatitis C and hepatitis B, extra-hepatic manifestations of hepatitis C, including the link between hepatitis C, autoimmunity and lymphoproliferative disorders and developing technologies to assess liver function reserve. He serves as a principle investigator for numerous clinical trials within his areas of expertise. He is a reviewer for many journals, including Blood, the Journal of Hepatology, Liver International and Ann of Internal Medicine. Prof. Zuckerman has authored or co-authored more than 120 peer-reviewed articles, review papers and case reports in international journals, as well as more than 100 peer-reviewed abstracts at conference proceedings. He is well known international speaker and as such he is often invited as a guest speaker to national and  international liver meetings. He is also a key opinion leader in the field of viral hepatitis C and as such he is a member of advisory boards of many pharmaceutical companies .  Prof. Zuckerman  is a member of several professional societies, including the American Association for the Study of the Liver, the European Association for the Study of the Liver and the International Liver Cancer Association and served  as a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Hepatology 2013-15. Since 11.2016 he is the chairman of the Israeli Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (IsASL)
