Prof. Yosef Haviv, Director of the Nephrology department at Soroka Medical Center and his team, in collaboration with Nurse Muhamad Otman from Netivot, Magen David Adom and the "Brothers in Arms" organization, teamed up, during the first days of the war, to rescue dialysis patients who were stranded in Sderot. These patients were in a life-threatening situation as the conflict progressed. To ensure their safety, they have decided to transport them via the open road 232, even though it posed a risk due to the threat of terrorists. Thankfully, they were able to reach Beer Sheva safely.
The secretary of the department, Oxana Yaakovov, coordinated the arrival of patients to Be'er Sheva. She arranged free accommodation for them at the apartment of Hertzel and Yehudit Shelley and secured free transportation with the dedicated driver, Pinchas Suisa. Additionally, she managed to secure a donation of food from "Machsanei Hashuk" and the Kidney Foundation for the rights of Patients in Israel.
The department staff's responsibility and determination to aid patients in Sderot saved lives.
