The goals of the
program:
- To train proficient senior physcians in the field
of maternal fetal medicine, that will be knowldgeble in the diagnosis and
treatment of the major obstetrical complications; and are able to provide,
appropriately and accurately, consultations for complicated maternal and fetal
conditions using evidence-based medicine.
- To become proficient in the conductance of normal
and complicated labors and deliveries.
- To become highly trained in performing
obstetrical surgery including high order cesarean sections.
- To become proficient at performing and
interpreting ultrasound, amniocentesis, and other antenatal
procedures.
- To become knowledgeable in the field of
gynecology and gynecological surgery.
- To become knowledgeable in the field of
infertility and assisted reproduction technologies.
The precise programe for each trainee will be
determined by the program director and the trainee according to his/her fields
of interest.

Applicants must be a senior physician who graduated a
full residency program at his/her country or a resident at the final stages of
his residency
All applicants must have a support letter from their
department's chairman
Program Description
Clinical:
The Soroka University
Medical Center (SMC) is a tertiary care center located in Beer Sheva,
Israel, and is one of the largest delivery center in our country. Last year we
had over 15,000 deliveries. This is the only hospital for the entire Negev area
and it serves a population of about 800,000 people. As such there is a huge
variety of high risk pregnancy, and the exposure for complicated cases is one of
the largest in the world.
The renovated Labor and Delivery Suites at Saban
Maternity Center, opened in 2011. There are 25 labor and delivery rooms, 2
operating theaters, a Perinatal Evaluation Center and a new Antenatal Testing
Suite.
The gynecology team offers a wide range of activities including
laparoscopic surgeries, pelvic floor clinics and operations, gyn-concology
clinics and surgery. The renovated operating room was opened in 2011 including 4
state of the art operations theaters, which are use for all types of gynecologic
surgery and minimally invasive procedures.
Our IVF unit provides a wide
variety of infertility cases and an opportunity to be exposed to outpatients and
in patient's management of assisted reproduction. The unit is performing about
500 cycles per year.

Research:
One of the strengths of our
department is the high number of publications. The
division of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a unique database that includes
over 200,000 deliveries. We encourage all trainees to engage into research
activity and to be able to train themselves in academic research and writing.
Our medical center, the School of Medicine, and the Faculty of Health
Sciences at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev have a state of the art basic
science laboratories that can be enrolled in many research programs in clinical
and basic science.
